The untold story
The pass% of PMP examination is around 80%. That means if 100 write the exam, 80 pass and 20 fail. Here is another interesting statistics. Only 50% of the participants of the PMP* preparatory programs, actually appear for the exam. That means if 100 attend the PMP preparatory exams, only 40 actually become PMPs. What happens to the remaining 60%?. This number is likely to increase with the tightening of the pass criteria.
Our careful analysis of this situation and our experience in taking the exam as well as mentoring our program participants, lead us to the following facts.
To be successful in PMP examination, one need;

We identified these three factors of experience, knowledge and exam practice as the three vital, critical success factors for gaining the PMP credential with confidence and ease. We went ahead and designed the PMdistilled©, sure success, accelerated PMP preparatory learning program around these three critical success factors. PMdistilled© accelerated PMP preparatory program is designed to impart these three vital critical success factors through a three phased approach, delivered through contact programs, self paced learning and mentoring.
PMdistilled comprises of three modules of learning;
- PMP essentials - online
- PMP face2face - classroom
- PMP exam readiness - online
delivered through contact classes, online tests, podcasts (audio classes delivered over the internet , which you can download and play as many times as required on any MP3 player), reference material and committed personalized mentoring designed for sure success.
We bundled the project management basics and the most common terminologies into the PMP essentials module, and made it online, so that the participants are ready with the project management fundamental's knowledge when they enter the contact program. This approach helps to save precious contact class time and at the same time gives an opportunity to reinforce the knowledge gained through the PMP essentials module, again in the PMP face2face module, where these fundamentals are revised quickly in a lesser time.
The core of PMBOK, we packaged as the PMP face2face module, with a view to maximize the benefits of the contact program. The contact program follow the classical flow of projects and take the participant through the initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control and close out. This gives the participants an opportunity to relate what they learn with real life examples and experiences, allowing the key concepts to really sink in and easy to recollect.
As discussed earlier, the knowledge of PMBOK and the project management experience alone will not help to be successful in the acid test of the 4 hour grueling PMP certification test. Exam practice is very very important, rather is the key, which improves the probability of success manifold.
With this insight, we developed the PMP exam readiness module, exclusively for our program participants. The heart of this module is a PMP test simulator, developed out of our R&D efforts.The PMP exam readiness module takes the participants through the entire PMBOK (project management body of knowledge) and the knowledge areas comprising of;
- project management integration
- project scope management
- project time management
- project cost management
- project quality management
- project human resource management
- project communications management
- project risk management
- project procurement management
During this phase, the participants are encouraged to revise the PMdistilled notes, listen to the podcasts and to take the knowledge area wise tests and the PMP simulation tests multiple times, till they start scoring around 80%, which is the pass criteria for the real PMP credential test.
As the participant progresses through the PMP exam readiness module, we continuously monitor the progress through the special feature of the test engine, and provide the participant with customized, individual specific feedback, and this continues till the participant gain the PMP credential , or 90 days, whichever is earlier.
